Before choosing your case, you need to decide what size of keyboard you want to build. The size you choose will narrow down your case options but each size or layout, whether it's 40 percent, 60 percent or full size, will have multiple cases to choose from. Once your have decided on the size of your keyboard, you need to decide on which material you want your case to be made from. This typically comes down to budget and doesn't impact the functionality of the keyboard. Cases are usually available in one of 4 different materials. Keycaps are almost as important as switches when it comes to overall keyboard feel.
For example, if you tried to enter the Alt code for the French Franc in Microsoft Word, WordPad, or Microsoft Outlook, it would work fine. But, it doesn’t work in Gmail, Microsoft Excel, my code editor, or other programs. With these programs, any code greater than 255 will provide unexpected results.

This is a very basic tool and any model will do. As with any project, there are a few tools required to get the job done right. Whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes are each notated differently on sheet music, and they’re played differently too. Whole notes, notated as empty circles, are played for four beats. Half notes, notated as empty circles with upward stretching arms, are played for two beats. And quarter notes, notated as filled-in circles with upward stretching arms, are played for one beat. If you choose a board with pre-soldered RGB LEDs this will achieve a nice underglow effect that can be accentuated with a clear or frosted acrylic case. Also touch adjacent rows and ensure they arenot connected. I wire-wrapped from one side to the other, ensuring the rows are connected after the diodes. Then connect each row to the pin you defined for that row in step 2. You may be blessed with a ‘hot-swappable keyboard’ making switch changes simple, No de-soldering. Just pull out the old switches and snap in the new. When buying new switches, make sure that they will fit your keyboard.
Warm up the soldering iron to approximately 380 degrees Celsius . Apply a small amount of solder to the tip of the iron. Press down firmly and straightly, but don’t force it if it doesn’t want to go. If it’s not going in, it’s likely that the pins are not aligned correctly, and you need to try again. If one of the metal pins gets bent, don’t worry. Just straighten it out before making another attempt.
This is a bit different than representing symbols on a keyboard using your Shift key. For example, this isn’t about typing Shift + 2 to produce the “at sign” – @. If your keyboard supports VIA, I highly suggest downloading the application and using it.
